Commercial Pest Control

Commercial Pest Control and Integrated Pest Management Services throughout West Cumbria

The Importance of Commercial Pest Control

Pests have the potential to contaminate the workplace, spread disease, damage products, foodstuffs and property, and even ruin your reputation leading to loss of business and even prosecution. If you have a pest problem, you’re responsible for a site that attracts pests. It’s essential that you put the right provisions in place to protect you and your customers.

By following the principals of Integrated Pest Management and proven pest control methods, Proserve guarantee early detection, detailed monitoring and precise treatment to manage your pest issues as effectively as possible. Every pest service and solution we offer your business is carried out by BPCA certified technicians.

Our BPCA approved Proserve technician will inspect and survey your property, identify the pest, evaluate damages and size of the infestation, treat the affected areas, and provide you with the needed information to prevent further re-infestation.

When it comes to infestations, prevention is just as important as the cure.

Pest Control refers to the methods of treating an existing infestation, such as with poison or more natural methods.

Pest Management refers to a long-term strategy of deterring pests, by making the area uninhabitable to them, eg. bird netting or spikes.

With over 25 years of experience in the industry, Proserve offer a comprehensive range of pest control and pest management services that help protect homes and businesses from all known pests.

It depends on your facility, the type of business you’re responsible for and the unique pest risks it is exposed to. All of these factors will be taken into consideration when we create your individual treatment plan.

Prevent contamination and disease

Insects, rodents and birds can easily contaminate food, operational equipment and work surfaces with their excreta, hairs or body parts. These are potential pathogens, spreading disease and giving rise to ‘foreign body’ complaints. Parasites carried by pest species can also be passed on to humans causing illness and stress.

Safeguard your investment

  • Rodents cause a wide range of damage due to their gnawing habits. Their strong teeth can easily puncture wood and aluminium and can cause damage to property – even fires if electric cables are attacked. Rodents will also eat a wide range of foodstuffs and can damage or contaminate many tonnes of product
  • Insect infestations are also a major concern. Foodstuffs can be decimated by insects, with consignments being rejected and finished goods recalled if insect contamination is present. Insects can block production machinery, and the downtime caused by the presence of insects in a food related site can be long and costly. Animal feeds can also be heavily damaged by insects
  • Bird droppings and residues can also spread disease. Bird debris can damage buildings, prove unsightly and may cause slips and trips, leaving property owners open to prosecution. Nests can block guttering or chimney flues and will encourage a number of pest insect species that thrive in bird residues

Protect your reputation

  • Your reputation and business may never recover from a pest infestation
  • Prosecutions and fines for pest-infested premises attract media attention to your business
  • The loss of consumer confidence may ultimately force closure

Meet your legal requirements

  • Meet your requirements under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to provide a safe working environment by employing a fully insured BPCA member who operates a safe system of work using suitable RISK and COSHH assessments
  • Meet your requirements under the Food Safety Act 1990 and The Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013 to ensure adequate procedures are in place for pests by employing a BPCA member
  • Meet your ‘due diligence’ requirements by using a comprehensive reporting system as provided by a BPCA member
  • The penalties for failure to comply can be severe – complete and immediate closure of premises; fines of up to £20,000 or up to six months in prison!

With a reputation of operating a very professional and discreet service, Proserve has managed to integrate long-term pest management programs into large network of local clients.

What our clients say…

Pest Management Program

How does Commercial Pest Management work?

  • Step 5: Preventative Action
Advise on or action measures to prevent pests from gaining access to your business. Sealing areas and proofing of buildings etc.

  • Step 6: Detailed Monitoring
Regular visits and monitoring of you property for pest activity and to ensure that protection measures are working.

  • Step 7: Documentation
Provide detailed reports about all pest control services carried out and how to further protect your business from any future infestations, which will help to show that you have taken all possible measures and have shown due diligence within the law.

If your business has a pest problem, then contact Proserve to identify, analyse, treat, prevent, monitor and ultimately eradicate your pest problem in an effective and discreet way.

Woodworm Treatment

Woodworm Treatment & Prevention Specialists in West Cumbria

Professional Woodworm Property Survey in West Cumbria

Proserve are specialists in woodworm treatment and are experts at identifying wood boring insects. Our woodworm treatment and timber preservation techniques are clean and simple using modern, water based micro emulsion insecticides.

If you are in any doubt about the presence of woodworm in your home, then a property survey from Proserve should be the first step to finding out and if necessary, eradicating the problem.

Woodworm Treatment & Solutions in West Cumbria

The first step to woodworm treatment is to fully establish the extent of the woodworm infestation. Proserve’s professional woodworm surveyors will be able to identify this. Once the extent of the woodworm infestation is known an appropriate woodworm treatment can be recommended.

For woodworm infestations that are not severe, normally only the surfaces of the timbers need to be treated to kill any emerging woodworm beetles and prevent them from mating and laying more eggs within the timber and causing the woodworm lifecycle to start all over again. Normally, a woodworm treatment spray is very cost effective and is covered by a an up to 30 Year TUG Back-Up Guarantee.

For more serious woodworm cases however, it may be necessary to introduce a range of chemical treatments and/or fumigation techniques.  In the most severe instances where a woodworm property survey reveals damage to the structure of the timber, it may be necessary to replace part or all of the affected timbers.

Woodworm is the collective name for a number of species of wood boring beetles (such as the death watch beetle) and weevils that attack wood to leave tiny holes or tunnels in timber. They lay their eggs on the surface or in cracks in timbers and it is their larvae which feed on the wood. They sometimes tunnel for years before they emerge through the characteristic flight holes to start the cycle again. Structural damage to floors, roofs, staircases and timber frame walls can be severe if left untreated.

All types of woodworm can cause serious damage to timber and must be professionally and effectively treated.

It is important to conduct the correct diagnosis of the type of infestation present so the most appropriate solution can be carried out, which is where Proserve can help.

Unsure if you have a woodworm infestation?  That is understandable as you are unlikely to see the woodworm beetles never mind the woodworm larvae that bore through the timber.  However, what you will be able to spot is the result of a woodworm infestation.

There are various tell tale signs that can help you identify woodworm and a potential woodworm infestation.  They include:

  • Small round exit holes in your woodwork, similar to the holes in a dart board.
  • Fine, powdery dust around these holes (this is known as frass).
  • Crumbly edges to boards and joists.
  • Tunnels within the timber
  • Weak and damaged timbers or flooring.
  • Adult woodworm beetles emerging from hole within the timber.
  • Dead beetles around a suspected woodworm infestation or on window sills

Even if you cannot see any holes, you might find frass (fine powdery dust) escaping from the back or underside of old furniture. Again this could suggest an active woodworm infestation. However, not all of these signs of activity are cause for concern. Holes and frass might just indicate a previous woodworm infestation, long since dormant. Certainly, if you are unsure, it is always advisable to consult a woodworm specialist. Please feel free to contact us at Proserve for any help and advice.

30 Years TUG Back-up Guarantee

Whatever woodworm treatment may be required, through Proserve, it carries the benefit of a TUG Back-up Guarantee of up to 30 years.

The Process

What to expect from your Pest Control Service visit from Proserve

Our BPCA certified technicians provide safe and effective solutions to get rid of pests using industry-leading treatments.

Our Proserve technician will inspect and survey your property, identify the pest, evaluate damages and size of the infestation, treat the affected areas and provide you with the needed information to prevent further re-infestation.

To enable us to provide you with an accurate price for treating a pest problem, it requires our expert pest control technician to fully understand the exact pest species and extent of your infestation in order for us to recommend and quote for the appropriate pest control treatment for your home or business.

What happens during a pest inspection:

  • Our BPCA certified pest control technician will contact the customer to discuss the pest infestation.
  • The technician will then arrange with the customer a suitable time for them to visit the premises to fully understand the extent of the pest infestation.
  • The pest control technician will survey and identify any potential entry points, food and water sources, or harborage zones that might encourage pest problems.
  • They will then carefully inspect for any signs of pest activity (damaged items, stains, marks, faeces).
  • Once the pests have been identified, the technician will analyse the scale, cause and source of the infestation.
  • Our technician will discuss their findings with the customer and recommend the most appropriate and effective treatment to resolve the pest problem.
  • They will then provide the customer with an accurate quote for the recommended treatment.

Upon acceptance of the quote, our pest control technician will be able to come out and provide your agreed pest contol treatment.

  • Our technician will arrange with the customer a suitable time for them to visit the premises
  • The agreed tailored treatment and pest control solutions will be carried out.
  • Our treatments and the products we are using are pretty safe but we do advise you to remain out of the property and let them settle for a couple of hours. This will help the treatment work at its fullest without any harm to you and your pet. Again, once the products have settled they become safe.
  • Our technicians will provide the service in a very professional and discreet way to protect your privacy and reputation.
  • Our technician will also provide you with a detailed report on all the pest control services that have been carried out.

Our pest control technician will advise on or action preventative measures to prevent pests from gaining access to your business (sealing areas, entry points and proofing of buildings etc) and offer useful tips on future prevention.

Depending on the pest and the agreed treatment plan, our pest control technician will arrange regular visits to your property and monitor for pest activity and to ensure that protection measures are working.

If all treatments including multiple visits are completed within your tailored plan, and after a while you continue seeing the same or a different type of pest, feel free to contact us and book an inspection.

Most pests seek food and shelter in your home. They are not attracted by dirtiness but by food and water supplies. Some insects and rodents can fit through the tiniest holes and cracks. This can happen even if you have the cleanest property.

We will deal with all types of pests found within the home or business. The most common are rats, mice, ants, wasps, etc.

See our Pest Control and Woodworm sections for more information.

The list of factors which contribute to the overall cost of treating a pest infestation are:

  • Type of pest – The type of pest which is infesting your property contributes to the overall pricing of the removal service. The cost of eliminating cockroaches differs from the price of treating a rodent problem as different solutions are needed to resolve each issue.
  • Size of infestation – The size and extent of a pest infestation in your home or business affects the costs of the pest removal service. For example, removing a large, established flea infestation will take longer and cost more than treating a small, contained flea problem that is treated quickly.
  • Type of treatment – The type of treatment needed to eradicate a pest problem will relate to the overall costs of the pest control service. For example, using insecticide sprays to control bed bugs differs from using a chemical free heat pod treatment to eliminate them and the price will reflect the methods and complexity of treatments used. Similarly, the pricing for preventive pest control varies from the cost of corrective, reactive treatments.
  • Size of property – The size of the property plays a part in the cost of a pest control service. The larger the property the more time is required to successfully treat a pest problem. This will have an effect on the cost of the treatment needed to remove the pest.
  • Number of treatments – Certain types of pests may require multiple treatments for successful control. This can be reflected within the pricing of the pest control service. For example, the price of a wasp nest treatment is less than the cost of a mouse treatment, as getting rid of mice requires multiple visits by our qualified pest controllers to ensure the problem is completely resolved.

Yes, we offer regular pest management for commercial clients.

You should know that it’s completely normal to notice an increase in the pest activity right after the treatment. This just means that the treatment is working because the pests are trying to escape.

If all treatments are completed, including multiple visits, and after a while you continue seeing the same or a different type of pest, feel free to contact us and book an inspection.

Pests reproduce extremely fast and they are even better at hiding from our sight. Seeing an individual one is almost always a sign of an infestation on the premises and you should call a professional as soon as possible. When people try to handle the problem themselves, they might get the ones they see, but are usually inefficient in getting rid of the entire population, as it’s always hidden.

Our treatments and the products we are using are pretty safe but we do advise you to remain out of the property and let them settle for a couple of hours. This will help the treatment work at its fullest without any harm to you and your pet. Again, once the products have settled they become safe.
